Pig iron

Pig iron, is wrought iron with a high carbon content that comes straight from the furnace in irregular shapes. These shapes are called pigs because the line of wrought iron running off in misshapen ingots from the furnace, resembles a line of suckling pigs. Pig iron entered the language in the late 16th century.
