Nigger

Now classified as the n-word because it is considered too offensive to use in public but from the late 18th century it was used freely to refer to any member of the Negro race group. The word itself is a corruption of the Spanish negro meaning black and was first cited in English as neger during the late 1500s. The spelling changed to nigger in the late 18th century.
