Home is where the heart is

Origin of: Home is where the heart is

Home is where the heart is

The origin of this well known saying remains obscure in that whoever coined it remains unknown. The first citation appears as a line from a poem that was published in several US newspapers in 1829 in the form of 'Tis home where e’er the heart is.' Thereafter, it became popular as a saying in the form of 'home is where the heart is' and multiple citations in this exact wording began to appear from 1830 onwards. Its origin, however, is indisputably American from this time onwards, as the saying became popular all over the world.
