Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee

This is the last line of a poem by American poet Stephen Vincent Benét (1898-1943) titled American Names written in 1929. It was also the title of a book by Dee Brown published in 1970. Wounded Knee in South Dakota was the scene of a massacre of at least 150 Sioux men, women and children by units of the US 7th Cavalry on 29 December 1890.
