Found wanting

If someone or something is found wanting it means deficient or lacking the ability to achieve the required standard or result. This usage of wanting dates from the 1400s and it also appears in the King James Version of the Bible (1611) Daniel 5:27 “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.”
