By the same token

A somewhat curious expression that variously means 'for the same reason', 'in the same vein', 'by the same meaning', and sometimes simply 'moreover' or 'furthermore'. The expression dates from the 15th century. Token originally means a 'mark' or a 'sign', and has its roots in the Old Frisian/Old Dutch/Germanic 'tieken', which appears in various spellings, meaning 'to signify' or 'to mean'.
