Blue on blue

Means friendly fire, which is probably one of the most evil euphemisms ever coined by the military. It means of course being fired upon accidently by one’s own side. The expression blue on blue derives from NATO war games and battle maps during the 1950s, where NATO or friendly forces were always denoted by the colour blue and enemy forces were always in red.
