Zilch

US slang expression that means nothing or zero. Like zip or zippo, its etymology is unknown, but some say it dates from the 1930s with the appearance or rather the non-appearance of a Mr Zilch in an American comic magazine. Mr Zilch never actually appears. In the comic, he is always just out of frame. Nothing was ever seen of him hence he became synonymous with nothing.
