Wrong side of the bed

To get up on the wrong side of the bed is wake up in a bad mood and the expression in this form dates from the late 18th/early 19th century. The concept, however, goes back to antiquity. The Romans, for example, were very careful to get out of bed on the right as opposed to the left because they believed it would bring good instead of bad luck.
