Uptight

Uptight means to be tense, nervy, or jittery, but can also mean cross or angry. Merriam-Webster dates it from 1934, and it does appear to be American in origin, but it is now used throughout the English-speaking world. Google N-grams, however, show no date of usage earlier than the late 1950s/early 1960s.
