Two left feet

Origin of: Two left feet

Two left feet

This expression illustrates the ancient and traditional prejudice to all things left. Logically, two right feet would be just as awkward as two left feet. Nevertheless, two left feet means to be clumsy and awkward, especially at dancing, and is first attested from 1902.
