Touch

To touch a person for money, i.e. to obtain money from them, dates from the mid-18th century. A soft touch, an easy target from which to obtain money, dates from the 1930s. Touch meaning the boundary of a football field dates from the mid-19th century and was so-called because a player could touch the ball with the hands without penalty. It was later extended to rugby fields although the touching of the ball with hands was no longer applicable.
