Tickets

Tickets is South African informal for the end or demise of someone, as in 'the truck went out of control and it was tickets for the driver'. South African usage dates from the mid-20th century and it is listed in the OED, but without any explanation of its origin. One suggestion is that it derives from a ticket of absence or leave.
