Sweeney

‘The Sweeney’ is British rhyming slang for the London Metropolitan Police Flying Squad, a specialised fast-reaction police unit, Sweeney Todd/Flying Squad, dates from c. 1938, but made famous by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) TV series The Sweeney that was first broadcast in the mid-1970s. Sweeney Todd is a fictional serial killer who featured in mid-19th century Victorian melodrama, a barber who used to murder his victims with a cut-throat razor.
