Stuck record

Someone sounds like a stuck record when he or she keeps repeating the same thing over and over again. The expression dates from c.1940 and derives from the days of vinyl records that were played with needles. A faulty record and/or needle would sometimes stick in one particular groove and so repeat the same lyrics of a song over and over. In North America, the expression is more likely to be a ‘broken’ record.
