Squitters

To have the squitters is to suffer from a thin, almost liquid form of diarrhoea. Contrary to what many people think, it is neither slang nor vulgar. Squitter is an imitative or echoic word i.e. a word that sounds like what it describes and dates from the late 16th century. The OED describes squitter as a verb that means ‘to void thin excrement’ and cites 1611 as its first appearance in print.
