Snow/Snow job

American slang for overwhelm or inundate dates from the late 19th century from the sense of literally being snowed under. More recently from the 1940s, ‘snow’ means to cheat, swindle or mislead. ‘Snow job’ is the adjectival phrase derived from this latter sense and dates from around the same time, i.e. the 1940s.
