Silk

A silk is a British colloquial expression for a King’s or Queen's Counsel, an advocate or jurist that holds status and prestige above that of ordinary barristers. This usage dates from the late 19th century and refers to the silk gown that these advocates wear in court. It is now accepted as Standard English rather than a colloquialism.
