Shyster

This is mid-19th century American slang, initially for a crooked or shyster lawyer, but now descriptive of any dubious businessperson or confidence trickster. It derives from the German scheisser literally a shitter. Some would perhaps argue this is a good way of describing any lawyer, crooked or otherwise.
