Short and sweet

Meaning concise and succinct is first attested in 1539 from Richard Taverner’s Proverbs and Adages based the writings of the Dutch scholar Erasmus. Assuming that short and sweet was already an adage in 1539; its origin may be even older since Erasmus is accredited with many translations from ancient Greek and Roman texts.
