Shelta

A cryptic, secretive jargon used by tinkers, gipsies etc comprised partly of Irish, Gaelic or Romany words disguised by inversion or arbitrary alteration of syllables and initial consonants. The word Shelta itself is of unknown origin and dates from the mid-19th century.
