Shazam

Some people might remember this as the name of the wizard Shazam who bestowed upon Billy Batson, a radio news reporter, the magical power to turn into Captain Marvel simply by saying, ‘Shazam’. The same people, however, might not know that Shazam is in fact an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury and that Captain Marvel as a super hero was able to synthesize and use the strength and qualities of all of them. Captain Marvel was created by writer Bill Parker and artist C.C. Beck in 1939 and made his first appearance in Whiz Comics in America in February 1940.
