Second thoughts

To have second thoughts is to reconsider or revise an opinion that may have been hurried, hence also the negative 'don't give it a second thought', which is an injunction from another person emphasizing that one's first or original thought or opinion does not require reconsideration. Both usages are first cited from the early 1600s.
