Sabotage/saboteur

The origin of these words meaning someone who deliberately breaks or destroys something derives from the French sabot meaning a boot. During the 19th century, disgruntled French workers would deliberately damage machinery by throwing their boots into it. According to the OED, these words make their first appearance in English in 1910.
