Re-boot

To boot or re-boot a computer means to start or re-start it and dates from around 1975. Boot is in fact short for bootstrap, which is a fixed sequence of instructions for loading the operating system, deriving from the notion that the first-loaded program would pull the others up by the bootstraps and so start the operating system.
