Plonk

Mainly British, Australian and New Zealand informal for cheap, average quality wine. The expression originated amongst Australian soldiers during WWI and is thought to be a mispronunciation of the French 'vin blanc', which means white wine. The term migrated from Australia and New Zealand to Britain and elsewhere during the 1950s.
