Play it again, Sam

This catchphrase was never actually said by either Ingrid Bergman or Humphrey Bogart in the movie Casablanca (1942). As a misquotation it has become more famous than Bergman’s actual lines, which were, “Play it once, Sam, for old times’ sake.” When Sam feigns ignorance, Bergman says, “Play it Sam, play ‘As Time Goes By.’” Thus, ‘Play it, Sam’ is the closest that Bergman comes to the often misquoted catchphrase.
