Physog

Origin of: Physog

Physog

Slang for the face, variously spelt as phyzog, fizzog, phizzog etc but the generally accepted or more correct spelling should be physog or even physiog since the origin is an abbreviation of the word physiognomy, which dates from the 1600s and means the art of judging character and mood from the face. The abbreviated forms are first recorded from the early 19th century c. 1811 and were generally used as slang for the face throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is rarely heard or used these days.
