Out (of) the park

Origin of: Out (of) the park

Out (of) the park

The park alluded to here is ballpark, the American baseball stadium. This expression is of course American and dates from the 1960s. It can be and is used in any context that has gone beyond reasonable bounds. For example, “I drank too and was out the park” or “I’m sorry, my last remark was out the park.”
