On the bounce

Origin of: On the bounce

On the bounce

This expression first recorded in America in the early 19th century, means to do things briskly or rapidly. More recently, in Britain from the mid-20th century, it has come to mean in quick succession and is a synonym for ‘on the spin’ or ‘on the turn’. These latter variations are all derived from ball sports, especially cricket, where turn, spin and bounce play important roles.
