Noggin
The original meaning is a small mug, cup or drinking vessel, dates from c.1630 and is of unknown origin. Towards the end of the same century, it came to mean a small drink and is sometimes still used in this sense. From the early 19th century, it became a slang term for head as in ‘to use one’s noggin’, perhaps because the head is a container of sorts, like a mug or cup, or it could be a reference to drinking vessels in the shape of a head e.g. Toby jugs.
