My word is my bond

Origin of: My word is my bond

My word is my bond

In its Latin form, dictum meum pactum has been the motto of the London stock Exchange since 1801. In English, the adage has been around in various forms since the 1500s and it may have been a Medieval Latin proverb before that. It is probably not an ancient Roman saying because no citation for it has been found in Classical Latin.
