Monkey’s wedding

This meteorological phenomenon occurs when the sun is shining at the same time as a rain shower. It seems, however, that it is only known as a monkey’s wedding in South African English, which may have been borrowed from the Zulu language in which it is also known as a monkey’s wedding and probably dates it from the late 19th century. In Afrikaans, it is a jakkalstrou or a jackal’s wedding. In various parts of England, it is known as a fox’s wedding while in America they say, the devil is beating his wife. Apparently, every culture and language throughout the world has a different folkloric description of this phenomenon.
