Mind over matter

Origin of: Mind over matter

Mind over matter

This well-worn phrase is a eulogy to the power of thought over material substance and first made its appearance in English during the mid-18th century. The concept, however, is very ancient, as evidenced by Virgil, who wrote in The Aeneid (19 BC) mens agitat molem, which means ‘mind moves matter’.
