Light bulb moment

A moment of inspiration, recognition or realisation, dates from the late 20th/early 21st century, chiefly US informal, derives from the allusion to a light bulb above a person's head in cartoons, indicating that person has an idea. Since time immemorial, light has always signified knowledge or inspiration, the opposite of being in the dark.
