Journeyman

The meaning of this word is linked to that of journey in that it also dates from the 1400s and means a workman who has completed his training or apprenticeship and is now entitled to work anywhere he likes for a day’s wages. By the 1600s, it had acquired the meaning of an inferior or hack worker and this is generally how the word is used today.
