Jolly hockey sticks

A British expression that describes upper-class girls, typically, from English public schools and gently pokes fun at their hearty, sporty, and often unscholarly demeanour. The coining of the phrase is attributed to the actor and comedian Beryl Reid during the 1950s, who portrayed many such girls during her career, starting with the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) radio series, Educating Archie, which ran from 1950-58.
