Jackanory

Is a British children’s TV series that started in 1965 and was still running at time of press. The title is borrowed from an 18th century nursery rhyme, “I’ll tell you a story about Jack a Nory.” The TV series spawned the rhyming slang, Jackanory/story during the 1960s. London Cockneys in the 1960s would not be pleased to learn that they were merely repeating an old nursery rhyme from the 18th century.
