Ivy League
Ivy League is the name given to eight universities in the north-eastern United States that are renowned for their high academic standing and reputation. The name was first used in this sense in 1936, according to Merriam-Webster. The origin of the name is thought to be derived from the ivy-covered walls that most of these universities possess. Ivy League is also used as an adjective to describe the students and graduates from these eight universities, which are Harvard, Yale, Brown, Columbia, Princeton, Penn, Cornell, and Dartmouth. All these universities are among the top-ranked universities in the world.
