In my book

In my book means in my opinion or according to my book of rules, and the expression is first cited from the mid-20th century, as does its negative ‘not in my book’. The expression derives from the allusion to doing things by the book, i.e. in accordance to a set of rules, which is very much older and dates from the 1500s.
