Humdinger

Humdinger is an American English informal word that dates from the late 19th century and describes an excellent, exceptional person, thing, or event. The etymology derives from 'hummer', which dates from the late 17th century, and describes an energetic, lively person, as in the noise that an insect like a bee makes, and 'dinger', which is American slang for something exceptional or superlative that also dates from the late 19th century . When put together as in 'humdinger' one gets the picture.
