Hotchpotch

A medley or jumble of different things dates from the 1400s and derives from the Old French hochepot, from hocher to shake, literally to shake the pot to prevent the ingredients from sticking. It was originally a culinary term but was soon used to describe a medley or jumble of anything. A later variation is hodge-podge.
