Hoick

To pull or jerk something suddenly is a colloquialism that dates from the late 19th/early 20th century. The OED offers that it may derive from hike or hitch as in to hike or hitch up one’s sleeves or trousers. These days, it is often used in cricket to describe an inelegant pull or strike over mid-wicket.
