Grand slam

Originally from the game of Whist or Bridge where to win all 13 tricks on offer is called a grand slam. This usage is first attested from the early 19th century c. 1814 but since then it has been used figuratively in many sporting contexts where it has come to mean winning all the available contests or matches in a series. This figurative usage dates from the early 20th century.
