Good Moaning

The catchphrase of Captain Crabtree, played by Arthur Bostrum, a British spy posing as a French policeman in the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) TV series ‘Allo, ‘Allo! Appearing dressed as an officer in the gendarmerie, Crabtree’s grasp of French is atrocious and, in the words of the character he admits, “My French cod be batter” thereby giving malapropisms a whole new dimension. The TV series ran for 10 years from 1982 to 1992 and comprised 85 episodes.
