Give someone the bird

Is to jeer, boo or express disapproval and derives from the world of the theatre where the custom used to be to hiss like a goose to express disapproval. This was known in the early 19th century as giving someone the big bird, which as an expression is now obsolete. By the late 19th century, the expression had morphed into giving someone the bird.
