Game of soldiers

This expression is usually preceded by a variety of curses, from the profane to the relatively banal, as in bugger/fuck/sod/blow this, for a game of soldiers. It articulates disenchantment with some activity or task. The origin is obscure, but is thought to be British military slang from the Second World War.
