Flash Harry

A Flash Harry is a derogative term for an over-confident and showy young man. It is thought to derive from the fictional character called Flash Harry played by actor George Cole in the St Trinian’s movie series, which started in 1953 with The Belles of St Trinian’s. The word flash itself, meaning showy or gaudy dates from the 1700s.
