Ends of the Earth

Origin of: Ends of the Earth

Ends of the Earth

The expression 'ends of the Earth' is mentioned in the Bible, Zachariah 9:10, which indicates the expression is very old, probably much older than William Caxton's use of the phrase in 1483. It probably had its roots back in the days when people believed the Earth was flat, but it has remained in vogue to describe distant, remote places on the planet. See also Four Corners of the Earth.
