Dum Dum bullet

A soft-nosed bullet that expands on impact so-called because of the bullets typically manufactured at the British military arsenal at Dum Dum near Calcutta dates from the late 19th century. The Hague Convention of 1899 banned the use of these bullets in war, after which they were only used in hunting game.
